Placon’s Wilson Plant Receives Zero Net Waste Certification
Congratulations to our Wilson, NC facility and thanks to PLASTICS (Plastics Industry Association) for recognizing companies that take steps to drive toward zero net waste in manufacturing.
Requirements include:
• Divert up to 90% of their total waste away from the landfill
• Engage employees in environmental efforts
• Avoid landfill costs and generate revenue by recycling
Placon’s Wilson plant, which produces a wide variety of custom and stock food packaging, began the certification process earlier this year by identifying waste streams, performing a sample waste sort, and then creating plans for diverting, reducing and recycling materials created in the manufacturing process.
In order to receive Zero Net Waste Certification, the Wilson facility was required to divert 90% of their waste from a landfill. Impressively, the plant’s starting diversion rate came in at 94.8%, with identified areas of improvement that will increase that percentage even higher in future years.
Placon now has three production locations certified as Zero Net Waste facilities (Plymouth, MN; Elkhart, IN; and Wilson, NC) and is dedicated to achieving Net Zero Waste Certification in it’s Madison, WI and West Springfield, MA facilities by the end of next year.
