Placon Has Kept Almost One Billion Bottles from Landfills
MADISON, WI – (October 5, 2009) Through the ongoing efforts of Placon Corporation over the past seven years, nearly one billion discarded plastic bottles have been diverted from landfills. For reference, that many bottles would fill about 7,300 average-sized homes from floor to ceiling.
The company’s EcoStar™ line of products is largely responsible for this remarkable reduction in landfill waste. It stems from the company’s commitment to the environment and the need for ongoing sustainability in the manufacture of thermoformed packaging. Unlike companies that have only recently jumped aboard the environmental bandwagon, Placon’s development and expertise in recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) reaches back more than 15 years.
According to Laura Stewart, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, “We’ve worked very hard to be a trusted source for recycled packaging. Consumers want it. Brand owners want it. Retailers demand it. And they also demand that it works throughout the entire supply chain from manufacturing operations to the store shelf. We address all of those issues.â€?
Stewart continued, saying, “The EcoStar™ line means our engineers consider every environmental aspect of a product’s design from start to finish. Then, with a closed-loop manufacturing process, we not only create products from recycled materials, we recover 100% of the production waste.â€?
The EcoStar™ line features four solutions: Food-grade RPET a multi-layer sheet with 35% recycled content for food packaging, PC50 RPET with post-consumer content at a minimum of 50%, HS 1000 RPET with 35% post-consumer content, and HS 1001 Premium Grade PETE. All feature 100% recyclability. The HS 1000 and HS 1001 offer superior heat-sealing characteristics which can increase sealing efficiencies and output by up to 10%.
