MADISON, WI (September 28, 2012) – Placon, a top 20 US thermoformer of thin-gauge rigid plastic packaging according to Plastics News, will be showcasing and discussing one of its most innovative packaging projects to date at this year’s Pack Expo event. The package, created for a Fortune 100 client, represents some of the most unique custom tooling design seen in the industry.

The protective product packaging is currently stocked at major retailers across the globe. With multiple components encased in the internal thermoform, a precise fit or “enveloping” effect was needed in order to protect and secure the product and all components from store shelves to consumers’ homes.

“This unique project required extensive collaboration between the client and all internal teams at Placon,” says Lewis Lee, Sales Engineer at Placon. “We took all of our customer’s requirements into consideration from creating packaging that is automation-friendly, can hang or stand and most importantly, can be easily opened by the consumer.”

“Among other requirements”, continued Lee, “the package also required a sealable Polyethylene Terephthalate (PETE) material that could be processed in a high-speed manufacturing environment. This package is currently unparalleled in the personal care packaging industry. One of the truly unique features of the package is its combination perforation/slit/finger tab opening that was created in a single operation on high speed thermoforming equipment.”

The unique, custom package will be on display at Placon’s booth #E-8315 at Pack Expo.
